Product Details:

Steam Safety Relief Valve, 3/4 Inch Inlet, 15 Psi Relief Pressure

Uses:

Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve is used in applications where pressure levels need to be maintained for smooth operations, such as petrochemical industries, oil & gas fields and power generation plants using air, liquid, steam or gas. This Watts 315M2-015 relief valve is also suitable for multi-phase applications in chemical processing and refining systems.

Features:

  • Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve is ideal for low pressure, steam heating boilers and processing equipment used in chemical processing and refining applications.
  • Watts 315M2-015 relief valve features bronze body to ensure excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance.
  • The non sticky PTFE disc to metal seating of this Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve provides positive shutoff.
  • Watts 315M2-015 relief valve has a threaded female outlet x NPT threaded male inlet (drain) connection for a leak free seal.
  • The factory pressure setting of Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve for saturated steam services is set at a pressure of 15 psi.
  • Watts 315M2-015 relief valve complies with ASME, section IV rating to ensure user safety.

Compatible Accessories:

  • Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve is compatible with the brand's low-pressure steam boilers for heating water used in bathrooms of office buildings, hospitals, schools and restaurants.

Standards and Approvals:

  • Watts 315M2-015 steam safety relief valve is ISO 9001-2008 certified to deliver high quality services, ensuring user safety.

Installation:

  • Safety relief valves should be located at the top of the boiler.
  • These safety relief valves need to be connected directly to a fitting further connected to a Y-base / to the boiler through a short nipple / to a flanged or tapped opening in the boiler / to a valveless header which connects steam outlets on the same boiler.
  • Safety relief valves must be installed with their spindles positioned vertically. The connection or opening between any safety relief valves and the boiler must have at least the area equivalent to the valve inlet.
  • To avoid scalding or water damage due to valve operation, the drain line needs to be connected to the valve outlet.
  • Drain line should be as short as possible & its size should be equivalent to the size of the valve discharge connection.
  • No shutoff valve should be installed between the tank and the relief valve or in the drain line.
  • Valve lever should be tripped at least once a year to ensure clarity of waterways.
  • While manually operating the lever, water discharges through the drain line. Take precautions to prevent water damage and contact with hot water. This device is designed specifically for emergency safety relief and must not be used as an operating control.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How do you adjust a pressure relief valve?

A. Firstly, loosen the lock nut on the pressure reducing valve with the help of a wrench and back it off by unscrewing the nut. Now, fit a socket wrench on the top of the valve over the adjustment nut. Turn the nut anticlockwise and clockwise (for reducing & increasing the pressure downstream and upstream, respectively) from the valve.

Q. What happens if the pressure relief valve fails?

A. Pressure relief valves can fail both in the closed and open position, causing damage to the engine, as well as the engine's oil filter. The pressure relief valve, which is stuck open, allows excess oil to bleed off. As a result, the engine loses pressure and a large volume of oil.

Q. What is the difference between a safety valve and a relief valve?

A. A relief valve is designed for limiting the pressure in a system within a set level or specified limit, while a safety valve automatically actuates when the pressure exceeds. Moreover, the relief valve opening is directly proportional to the spike in the vessel pressure, whereas a safety valve opens instantly to prevent excess pressure conditions. Also, the relief valve's set point is generally set at 10% above working pressure & for a safety valve, it is at 3 % above the working pressure.

Q. How often do pressure relief valves need to be replaced?

A. It is recommended to replace your PRV every 4 - 5 years to prevent potential damages.

Q. Where is the boiler pressure relief valve located?

A. The boiler pressure relief valve is mounted on the discharge pipe of the pressure relief valve. It is a small pipe that can be seen on the exterior wall of the boiler where it is installed.
