Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. How are Opto-Matic closed system oilers installed?
A.
- Before installing, shaft rotation direction must be determined.
- Install the oiler on the side of the equipment facing the direction of shaft rotation to prevent misfeeding of the oiler.
- Loosen set screw and remove reservoir.
- Tighten supplied plug in the side or bottom fluid port.
- Apply pipe thread sealant to both ends of an NPT male nipple (not included) and tighten it in the remaining fluid port & bearing housing.
- The closed system should be parallel to the bearing housing in a vertical position.
- Apply pipe thread sealant to a male connector (not included) and tighten it into the vent port. Repeat the same with the second male connector.
- Connect a section of copper or nylon tubing to the NPT connectors to serve as the vent line.
- With the Allen key, adjust the collar to the desired fluid level.
- Fill the bearing chamber through the main body until it reaches just below the optimum fluid level visible in the sight gauge.
- Use the reservoir to feed oil to the proper level.
- Place a thumb over the reservoir spout, invert it and insert the spout into the main body until upper casting bottoms out on the collar.
- Secure set screws on upper casting and start the machine.
Q. Is Trico Opto-Matic oiler corrosion-resistant?
A. The casting and internal parts are made of 316 stainless steel & zinc-plated steel, respectively, for resisting corrosion on exposed surfaces.
Q. What causes oil to flow to a motor bearing when a constant level oiler is used?
A. While using a constant level oiler, air flows from the air vent to the oil reservoir. This releases the fluid from the reservoir, allowing it to flow into the equipment until the re-establishment of the liquid seal.
