Working Mechanism

  • Insert the ultrasonic sensor into the probe sockets on the meter.
  • Press and hold the power button for two seconds to turn On the meter.
  • The LCD shows information about the meter and then the current set sound velocity.
  • Adjust the ultrasonic sensor frequency and the sound velocity (if required).
  • Apply coupling gel on the material and place the sensor firmly against the desired measurement area.
  • Verify that the coupling indicator appears before reading the measurement on LCD.
  • Press the 'save' button to save the measurement.

Features

  • REED Instruments digital ultrasonic thickness gauges have a large LCD for easy observation.
  • They have a low-battery indicator to alert users about battery status.
  • These gauges allow users to switch between metric and SAE units.
  • The meter is programmed to turn Off after approximately 3 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery life.
  • These units also display sound velocity and have an accuracy of +/-(0.5% + 0.1 mm).
  • REED 7900 ultrasonic thickness gauge has a two-point calibration for high accuracy and can store up to 500 measurements.

Compatible Accessories

  • REED Soft Carrying Case: This case comes with a shoulder strap, allowing users to carry these gauges to various locations easily.
  • REED Ultrasonic Couplant Gel: This gel is ideal for transmitting high-frequency energy between the ultrasonic gel and the material under test.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to take measurements on cylindrical surfaces?

  • Couple the sensor with the target material.
  • Make the axial line of the test material parallel or perpendicular to the crosstalk interlayer plate of the sensor.
  • Shake the sensor vertically along the axis of the material being tested.
  • The readouts on the screen will change regularly.
  • Use the minimum readout.

How to measure the thickness of rusted material?

Take multiple measurements while rotating the crosstalk interlayer plate of the sensor in different directions to reduce errors.

How to maintain the probe's sensitivity of these REED Instruments' ultrasonic gauges?

  • The allyl resin probe becomes rough upon heavy usage.
  • Smoothen the probe surface by grinding it with sandpaper to restore its sensitivity.

What is the operating temperature range of these instruments?

32 to 122 degrees F.
