MALIN CO. Stainless Steel Aerospace Lockwire, Spool

When bolts become loose, Malin Co. lock wires secure them as firmly as a lock by counteracting them with more tightening. They reinforce bolts, nuts & fasteners when it is critical to keep them in place, such as industrial equipment, aircraft, moving vehicles & marine vessels.

Working Mechanism

  • To wire lock nuts and bolts, thread them through two or more fasteners, twist & tighten them, and wrap them around another part to secure them.
  • One twist is produced by twisting the wires through an arc of 180 degrees and is equal to half of a full turn.
  • For closely spaced, closed geometrical pattern (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, etc.) parts in an electrical system, the single-strand method of lock wiring may be used.
  • The most common method is the double twist method, which involves twisting two strands of wire together.
  • While twisting, the wire should be pulled taut.

Features

  • Easy to shape and form.
  • Stainless steel construction to resist rust and corrosion in harsh marine environments.
  • Selected models packed in a recyclable canister made of high-density polyethene to protect against grease & corrosive materials.
  • Colour-coded cans for easy safety lock wire identification.

Standards and Approvals

  • ASTM A 580

Frequently Asked Questions

What things one should keep in mind before using a lock wire?

  • Lock wires shouldn't be installed in such a way that they are subjected to chafing, vibration fatigue or additional tension other than the tension imposed on the wire to prevent loosening.
  • Ensure that the units to be locked and wired have been properly torqued.
  • Under-torquing or over-torquing to achieve proper hole alignment is not recommended.
