Molded Case Circuit Breakers: TQDL Series
General Electric TQDL Series circuit breakers are designed for protecting sensitive circuits in distribution systems from current overloads or short circuits. These units feature a thermal-magnetic trip unit to deliver long-time and instantaneous current limiting functions and a molded case to hold the current carrying components, trip devices and other mechanisms in a compact space. Choose from a wide range of these TQDL Series circuit breakers available in 125, 175 and 200A amperage ratings on Raptor Supplies.
Working Mechanism
- The circuit breaker uses a bimetallic strip and an electromagnet to protect against short circuits and overcurrent current conditions.
- When a constant current flows through the conductor, the bimetallic strip gets hot and bends.
- Under such conditions, the mechanical latch within the circuit breaker releases and separates the contacts and interrupts the current flow.
- During short circuit conditions current rises suddenly, which causes the electromagnet displacement of the plunger in the solenoid or tripping coil.
- When the plunger strikes the trip lever, it triggers the latch mechanism, causing the contacts to open and interrupt the current flow.
Features
- They have molded case construction that provides protection against mechanical damage.
- These circuit breakers feature load-side lug terminals for easy connection on panels.
- They feature thermal magnetic trip units for long-time and instantaneous current overload protection.
- These General Electric TQDL Series circuit breakers have an interrupt rating of 10kA@120V.
- They are available in current ratings ranging from 125 to 200A.
Frequently Asked Questions
How to identify that my General Electric molded case circuit breaker requires replacement?
These MCCBs need to be replaced if frequent tripping, visible damage, a burning smell, or if they fail to reset after being tripped. Additionally, consider a replacement if the switch is outdated or no longer meets the latest electrical codes and standards.
What is the purpose of molded cases?
Molded cases hold current-carrying components, trip devices and mechanisms integrated into one unit.
What are the reasons for the frequent tripping of these circuit breakers?
Major reasons include circuit overloading, short-circuiting, ground fault surges, defective circuit breaker or an arc fault.
