General Electric TQDL Series circuit breakers are designed for protecting sensitive circuits in distribution systems from current overloads or short circuits. These units feature a thermal-magnetic trip unit to deliver long-time and instantaneous current limiting functions and a molded case to hold the current carrying components, trip devices and other mechanisms in a compact space. Working Mechanism

  • The circuit breaker uses a bimetallic strip and an electromagnet to protect against short circuits and overcurrent current conditions.
  • When a constant current flows through the conductor, the bimetallic strip gets hot and bends.
  • Under such conditions, the mechanical latch within the circuit breaker releases and separates the contacts and interrupts the current flow.
  • During short circuit conditions current rises suddenly, which causes the electromagnet displacement of the plunger in the solenoid or tripping coil.
  • When the plunger strikes the trip lever, it triggers the latch mechanism, causing the contacts to open and interrupt the current flow.
