Lighting Contactor

General Electric CR460 Series lighting contactors are widely used for controlling the flow of power supply in lighting circuits and feature a compact design with a NEMA-rated enclosure (on selected models) to prevent the ingress of contaminants in exposed installations. These electrical / mechanical lighting contactors further come equipped with power terminals designed to provide protection to fingers and back of the hand against electrical shocks and 12 poles for simultaneously handling multiple devices. Their power poles are easily installable & can change from NO to NC (vice versa) configuration by simply unlatching and repositioning the lever. The quick snap-in auxiliary contacts of these relay switches facilitate both normally open and normally closed configurations, when installed on the left and right side of the contactor, respectively.

Working Mechanism

  • These lighting contactors are electrical devices designed to control the operation of lighting circuits in buildings and industrial settings.
  • They are made of a coil that, when energised, creates a magnetic field, pulling down a set of contacts to close the electrical circuit.
  • These contacts are responsible for connecting / disconnecting the power supply to the lighting fixtures.
  • The contactor also includes an auxiliary contact set for signalling or control purposes.

Features

  • These electrical / mechanical lighting contactors are equipped with power terminals designed to protect fingers and the back of the hand against electrical shocks and 12 poles for simultaneously handling multiple devices.
  • They have an open / NEMA 1 enclosure to provide limited protection against dust and accidental contact with live electrical parts.
  • These GE lighting contactors are designed for reliable switching of lighting circuits, ensuring that lights turn on and off as intended.
  • They offer snap-in auxiliary contacts to extend the functionality of electrical switches, contactors or circuit breakers by easily attaching within compatible mounting locations and enabling signal transmission.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main components of a GE lighting contactor?

GE lighting contactor consists of a coil, a set of contacts (usually NO - normally open), an auxiliary contact set (for signalling or control purposes) and a housing to protect the components.

How to maintain these GE lighting contactors?

  • Regularly inspect the contactor for wear and loose connections.
  • Clean contact surfaces to remove dust and debris.
  • Tighten all electrical connections to ensure security.
  • Check the coil for damage and verify control circuit protection.
  • Replace damaged or worn components with genuine parts.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities for reference.
  • Adhere to safety precautions and use appropriate PPE during maintenance tasks.

Can GE lighting contactors be integrated into building automation systems?

Yes, GE lighting contactors can often be integrated into building management and automation systems, allowing for centralised control & monitoring of lighting.

How do I install these GE lighting contractors?

  • Turn off power to the circuit before beginning installation.
  • Securely mount the contactor in a well-ventilated location.
  • Wire the incoming power supply to line-side terminals as per the diagram.
  • Connect lighting fixtures or devices to the load-side terminals.
  • Wire the control circuit to the contactor's coil with proper protection.
  • Ensure the contactor is grounded for safety.
