How to apply Formula-8 thread sealant to threaded joints (3/4 inches or larger)?

  • Clean the male and female threads to remove any dirt or oil.
  • Start from two threads back from the end of the male fitting and apply two wraps of a full-density PTFE tape in the direction of thread rotation, maintaining tension on the tape while wrapping.
  • Apply the thread sealant to fill the threads.
  • Hand tighten or use standard pipe tools to torque the male and female pieces together.
  • Wipe off excess sealant.

Why is Formula-8 sealant advisable for hard-to-reach locations?

Formula-8 paste wets the thread surface and cannot be accidentally knocked loose due to obstructed access or visibility in confined spaces.

Is Formula-8 sealant corrosive?
