Working Mechanism

  • These electrical operators have a bistable latching mechanism to switch the circuit breaker ON and OFF using a solenoid.
  • The bistable latching mechanism consists of an intermittently rated solenoid, a magnet, armature drive plates and a bistable latch.
  • The armature and magnet help to move the drive plates when the coil is energised.
  • The bistable latch determines in which direction the solenoid components and drive plates will move.
  • The drive plates, on the other hand, slide on bearing surfaces and move the circuit breaker handle from one position to another.

Features

  • They feature a single-solenoid mechanism to provide high-speed switching with operating times of less than 5 cycles, making them ideal for small generator synchronising operations.
  • They are mounted on the cover within the trimline of the breaker and are available with pigtail leads or integral terminal blocks for a secure connection.
  • They are equipped with a cover interlock / remote operation switch that disconnects power to the solenoid when the cover is removed or when the remote operation slide switch on the cover is in the OFF position.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install an electrical operator to my circuit breaker?

  • Remove the circuit breaker from the panelboard.
  • Install the moulded trigger (provided with the electronic operator) in between the latch springs and ensure that the springs rest on the top of moulded trigger flanges.
  • Inspect that the moulded trigger is correctly installed by moving the manual handle ON and OFF several times.
  • Position H-nuts in provided slots on the rear end of the circuit breaker.
  • Make sure that the breaker's handle is in the OFF position.
  • Next, line up the circuit breaker handle and the moulded trigger and position the electrical operator on the circuit breaker.
  • Secure the operator to the circuit breaker using hardware.

What is the purpose of pigtail leads?

Pigtail leads are short lengths of wire connected to a device or component to make a connection to a large electrical system. These leads are insulated with tape or heat shrink tubing to prevent electrical shocks.
