EATON Definite Purpose Starters, 3 Phase
Eaton definite purpose starters are electrically operated switching devices designed for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. They feature NEMA enclosures for protection from dust and are equipped with thermal overload & automatic reset protection. They have smaller and mor...e compact design than general-purpose starters, thus making them ideal for use in limited space.Read more
Working Mechanism
- The starter is equipped with a set of contacts that control the flow of electricity to the motor.
- When the operator or the control system initiates the start command, the contacts (that are normally open) switch to a closed position, allowing the power supply to the motor.
- The motor now begins to run.
- On initiating the stop command, the contacts return to their original position and disconnect the power, which causes the motor to stop operating.
- The starter is also incorporated with thermal overload protection, which monitors the current flowing to the motor.
- If the current exceeds the pre-set limit, the thermal overload protection will trip and open the contacts, thereby disconnecting the power to the motor.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are non-reversing starters?
Non-reversing starters control starting, stopping and protection of a three-phase AC motor. They are only designed to allow the motor to move in one direction and cannot reverse the direction.
What is the difference between a contactor and an overload relay?
A contactor is used for making and breaking the connection between the power source and the motor, while the overload relay offers protection against overheating caused by the overloading of the motor.
What is the advantage of using silver alloy contacts?
Silver alloy contacts offer high conductivity, durability and resistance to corrosion, offering protection from excessive wear & tear in electrical devices.
