EATON Definite Purpose Motor Control Overload Relays

Eaton definite purpose motor control overload relays provide reliable motor protection against current overload or phase failure. They monitor the amount of current drawn by the motor and disconnect it if the current exceeds a pre-set limit for a specific period of time. They prevent overheatin...g or excessive wear, thereby extending service life and overall system reliability. Read more

Working Mechanism

  • These relays have a thermal element or a bimetallic strip that responds to the heat generated by the current flowing through the motor.
  • If the current exceeds the pre-set limit, the thermal element (or strip) expands, causing the relay to trip and disconnect the power to the motor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the significance of LED status in these relays?

  • Users should focus on the LED indication on the relay to check the working condition.
  • If it shows a single blink, then the relay is operating normally, and if there is a double blink, there is a fault condition.

How to reset an overload relay?

When the overload relay is set in the H or hand position, the reset button must be pressed manually to reset the relay after a tripping event. On the other hand, if the relay is set in A or auto position, the overload relay resets automatically after tripping.

How to replace the coil from these relays?

  • Disconnect the relay from the panel or mounting strip.
  • Remove two screws from the back of the relay baseplate.
  • Carefully pick the coil springs positioned between the coil and the armature carrier.
  • Remove the old coil and replace it with a new one.
  • Reassemble the relay with the ends of the two coil springs securely confined in their respective cavities.
  • Screw back the unit and test the relay.
