Working Mechanism

  • When an electric current is applied to the electromagnet, it generates a magnetic field.
  • This magnetic field attracts the movable contact attached to the spring.
  • The spring (initially in a relaxed position) gets pulled by the magnetic field and compresses.
  • This process completes the electric circuit.
  • When the current to the electromagnet is turned off, the magnetic field collapses.
  • The spring returns the movable contact to its original position, breaking the electrical circuit.

Features

  • Eaton D3 Series general-purpose relays have flag indicators that show relay status in either manual or powered condition.
  • Their push-to-test button allows for manual operation without coil power.
  • The lock-down door holds the pushbutton and contacts in the operating position (when activated) to analyse circuit problems (if any).
  • No contact chattering for momentary voltage drops up to 50% of rated voltage.
  • Their finger-grip covers assist operators in removing relays from sockets.
  • These relays have a white plastic ID tag / label for easy identification in multi-relay circuits.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose the right general-purpose relay for my application?

Consider factors, such as the voltage & current requirements of your load, the switching capacity of the relay and the contact arrangement.

How to test Eaton D3 Series general purpose relays?

To test a general-purpose relay, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the relay contacts. Users can also apply voltage to the relay coil and check if the contacts open and close properly.

How to calculate the power rating of a general-purpose relay?

Multiply the voltage and current ratings of the contacts. For example, a relay with contacts rated for 120VAC and 10A would have a power rating of 1200V

How are electromagnetic relays better than solid-state relays?

Electromagnetic relays can handle higher currents and voltages than solid-state relays.
