EATON CN35 Series Electrically Held Lighting Contactors

Eaton CN35 Series electrically held lighting contactors are designed for controlling the switching of tungsten (incandescent) or ballast (fluorescent & mercury arc) lamp loads, as well as other non-motor (resistive) loads. They feature a compact design, making them suitable for application in i...ndustrial plants, stadiums, parks and construction sites that require lighting control. They are available with NEMA 1 enclosures to protect components from dust, dirt or dripping non-corrosive liquids. Read more

Working Mechanism

  • These contactors utilise an electromagnet to control the switching of lighting loads.
  • When power is supplied to the unit, the electromagnet becomes energised, attracting a movable armature.
  • This process causes the contacts to close, thereby completing the circuit to the load.
  • When the power is turned off, the electromagnet becomes de-energised, and the armature is released from the magnetic force.
  • A spring mechanism in the contactor then pulls the armature away from the contacts, thus opening the circuit and disconnecting the power to the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of electrically-held contactors?

An electrically held contactor has a built-in mechanism that keeps contacts closed after the electromagnet has de-energised until an external command is given to open it. It is typically used in applications where it is important to keep the load connected even if the power is lost, such as emergency lighting systems, elevators and more.

What are solid-state timers?

Solid-state timers use semiconductor technology to control the timing of an electrical circuit. They are used to control the energisation of the electromagnet in an electrically-held contactor, turning the contactor on / off at specific times.
