EATON BF Series Basic Relays

Eaton BF Series basic relays are electromechanical devices that are used in industrial and commercial settings to control motors, pumps and other electrical loads. They are designed to switch electrical loads on / off using a low-power control circuit. These relays incorporate a set of contacts... controlled by an electromagnet to provide over-current and short-circuit protection.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • When the control circuit is energised, it causes the coil of the electromagnet to generate a magnetic field. This field attracts the armature of the relay, connected to the contacts.
  • As the armature starts moving, it causes the contacts to close, completing the circuit and allowing the electrical load to power up.
  • On the other hand, when the circuit de-energises, the magnetic field is removed and the armature returns to its original position.
  • This causes the contacts to open / break the circuit and disconnect power to the electrical load, thereby turning it off.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to replace the AC coil from these relays?

  • Remove the relay from the panel or mounting strip.
  • Remove two screws that are now accessible from the back of the relay baseplate.
  • Carefully pick the coil springs positioned between the coil and the armature carrier.
  • Remove the old coil and replace it with a new one. Reassemble the relay with the ends of the two coil springs confined in their respective cavities.
  • Screw back the unit and start the operation.

What are solid-state timers?

Solid-state timers are integrated into basic relays to provide timed control of the relay's operation. These devices control the energising and de-energising of the relay's coil, allowing the relay to switch the load on / off at specific times or at a specific time delay, allowing the relay to control the load in a timed manner rather than relying on an external signal.

What is the advantage of using silver alloy contacts?

Silver alloy contacts offer high conductivity, durability and resistance to corrosion, making them suitable for use in electrical devices subject to high levels of wear & tear.
