EATON Ampgard IT Series Soft Start Motor Starters
Eaton Ampgard IT Series medium-voltage starters are designed to provide soft-start capabilities for electric motors. They help reduce the inrush current and the mechanical stress on the motor, gear reducers and other equipment during start-up. These soft start motor starters also protect agains...t overcurrent, undercurrent, phase loss and overheating, allowing the motor to start smoothly and safely. FVNR (full-voltage non-reverse) starters from Eaton Ampgard Series are used in applications where motors are required to run in a single direction with a full voltage requirement. They are typically found in applications, such as pulp & paper, water & wastewater, oil & gas and HVAC.Read more
Working Mechanism
- These soft start motor starters help to connect and disconnect the power supply to the motor, while the control circuit initiates / terminates the start or stop commands.
- During the start cycle, the control circuit sends a command to the contactors to close, providing full voltage to the motor. The motor then starts and runs at full voltage.
- When the stop cycle occurs, the control circuit sends a command to the contactors to open, disconnecting the power supply to the motor and making it stop.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of an arc-resistant enclosure in these soft start motor starters?
Arc-resistant enclosures are designed to allow the safe dissipation of energy from an electric arc. They offer steel construction to withstand the mechanical forces generated by an arc blast and prevent them from deformation or damage. They also have special coating that prevents the spread of fire in case of an arc fault. They are ideal for critical applications, such as power generation, substations and other high-risk areas where the presence of an electrical arc fault is high.
What is the purpose of a relay?
A protection relay is used to protect electrical equipment and power system from damage due to faults or current inrush. When such abnormal conditions are detected, the relay sends a signal to trip a breaker or open a switch, disconnecting the equipment or system from the power source.
What are vacuum contactors?
Vacuum contactors are used in high-voltage power transmission and distribution systems, where high current or voltage is present. These contactors use a vacuum to insulate the contacts from the surrounding atmosphere. They are controlled by an electromagnet, which when energised, attracts an armature to close the contactor and, when de-energised, releases the armature to open the contactor again.
