Working Mechanism

  • A photoelectric sensor sends out light energy from the face of the sensor to create a detection zone.
  • A detection occurs and the sensor switches on when a target passes into the area of the sensor beams and the light is returned to the sensor (depicting as the returning red beam).
  • The sensor instantly switches off when the target moves away from the detection zone.

Features

  • These sensors operate on the principle that an object interrupts or reflects light. They are not just limited to metal objects but can also be used to detect any object, including glass, plastic, wood and liquid.
  • They feature a fast response time and excellent high resolution, allowing detection of very small objects, as well as precise position detection.
  • They are able to detect objects without physical contact, thus eliminating the risk of damage to sensing objects, ensuring extended sensor service.

Standards and Approvals

  • CSA
  • CE
  • RoHS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a photoelectric sensor with optical fibre be used in an explosion-proof area?

A photoelectric sensor with optical fibre has no electrical parts. Hence, it can be used in hazardous, explosion-proof areas. However, the lens, case and fibre are made of plastic and must be free from corrosion or deterioration (fogging) due to contact with solvents.

How is the distance of the object detected by a photoelectric sensor?

PSD (position sensitive device) and the dual photodiode are used for the light receiving element. The distance to the sensing object is judged by detecting the reflected light spot position on the light receiving element.

What are Thru-Beam sensors?

These sensors are available in forward and right-angle view options and can be intermixed in any combination to fit the desired application. The long-range models feature a visible sensing beam to simplify installation and alignment. They are available in 20 and 80 ft sizes.
