APlow Bolts
Plow bolts are fasteners that hold the cutting edge blade to the bottom surface of the board in plowing applications. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of plow bolts from Fabory. They are used for snow clearing, excavation, construction & agriculture applications for keeping the plow blade secure.
Features
- They are divided into mainly 2 parts: the head and the threaded portion.
- The head is used to drive the bolt in / out from the hole / surface. It has a neck of varying styles for preventing accidental opening due to vibration or other factors.
- The threaded portion generally starts just below the head for easily threading into the workpiece & providing a secure grip.
- Owing to the angled construction of the head & the neck, these bolts require a hole that is countersunk with chamfered edges for sitting flush on the surface.
- Selected models have a partially threaded shank with a shoulder instead of a fully threaded shank. This protects the bolts from loosening and prevents breakage / bending due to friction-induced overheating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some plow bolts have shoulders?
The shoulders provide an unthreaded area to prevent sheering & snapping off of bolts due to misdirected pressure on the attached components (like nuts).
What are the major differences between plow bolts and traditional bolts?
Traditional bolts may or may not sit flush into the holes, but plow bolts are designed to sit flush once installed & not protrude out of the workpiece's surface. Plow bolts also have a neck below the head to keep the bolt stationary on the surface while adjusting a nut on it.
Are plow bolts and carriage bolts the same?
Plow bolts should not be confused with carriage bolts as they have a different neck design. Carriage bolts are generally used in smaller equipment like snowplows attached to pick-up trucks, whereas plow bolts are used in larger plow equipment like excavators. Carriage bolts, unlike plow bolts, do not have an angled head for fitting onto countersunk holes. They have a flat profile across the bottom of the head.
