Thermostatic Mixing Valve, Lead Free Copper Silicon Alloy
Watts thermostatic mixing valves regulate the water temperature by mixing cold and hot water simultaneously. Watts valves are used with boiler and tempered water systems for in-floor radiant heating, soil heating, emergency shower and municipal water processing applications. These thermostatic mixing valves allow the water heater to operate at higher temperatures, extending the effective system flow rate at the valve output. This feature increases productivity. Watts mixing valves are made of lead-free copper silicon alloy to facilitate excellent manufacturing capabilities for forging, casting & machining material stocks. Watts thermostatic mixing valves reduce the size / BTU requirements, providing capacity for peak system demands. These UPC-listed valves deliver a maximum flow rate of 23 gpm and are capable of withstanding temperatures & pressures up to 160 degrees F & 150 psi, respectively. Choose from a wide range of these thermostatic mixing valves, available in union, solvent weld, quick connect and compression inlet options on Raptor Supplies. Watts heavy duty float valves and adjustable pressure relief valves are also available for various commercial water supply regulation applications.

Features
- Watts mixing valves have integral check valves and filter gaskets in both the hot and cold water inlets to prevent cross flow and ensure that water flows in one direction only.
- The double throttling design responds quickly to changes in water temperature.
- The solid wax hydraulic principle thermostat regulates both hot and cold water and is designed to provide consistent mixing of hot and cold fluids.
- Heat traps are used in thermostatic valves to reduce convection loss (also known as thermosiphon) and thus, increase system efficiency.
- In the event that the cold water supply is compromised, the flow of mixed water is safely restricted.
- Sweat or threaded connections are available.
Working Mechanism
- When tempered water is used, a thermostat in the valve's mixing chamber detects the outlet temperature and automatically positions a seat assembly, which controls the flow of hot and cold water supplied to the mixing chamber.
- If the temperature of the mixed outlet rises, the thermostat will expand, moving the seat assembly to allow the cold water inlet port to open more fully while restricting the hot water inlet port.
- If the mixed outlet temperature drops, the thermostat contracts, moving the seat assembly to allow the hot water inlet port to open more fully while restricting the cold water inlet port.
- In both cases, the temperature of the mixed outlet water is automatically and continuously maintained at the preset temperature within the valve's tolerances.
- When the cold or hot water supply fails, the seat assembly moves to an extreme position, cutting off the hot or cold inlet water port.
- A mechanical adjustment allows you to select the desired outlet water temperature within the valve's range.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you adjust a thermostatic mixing valve?
- Remove the plastic cap on top of the valve and adjust with a close-fitting spanner to adjust the temperature supply.
- To raise the temperature, turn the knob anti-clockwise.
- To reduce the temperature, turn the knob clockwise.
Do I need a thermostatic mixing valve?
To control water temperature at the delivery point and prevent scalding, you must install thermostatic mixing valves on your water heater. This will enable you to raise the heater temperature, killing possible bacteria.
How do you adjust the wattage on a water mixing valve?
- Loosen the locking cap screw with a hex wrench to adjust the valve setting.
- To adjust the temperature, lift the cap by 1/4 inches.
- Turn counterclockwise to raise the temperature.
- To reduce the temperature, turn the knob clockwise.
