What is keyseating?
Keyseating is a type of machining process where the internal shapes & forms that make up a machine key are cut using a reciprocating, single-point cutting tool (like the shaping process). The keyseating cutter is secured in a holder by a clamp. It can move vertically within a tool guide when paired with a feed bar. Internal keyways and other straight-sided shapes and forms are generally cut by keyseating machines, also known as keyseaters, in non-production parts.
