Lag Shields
Expansion Anchors
Expansion Shields
Expansion shields allow anchoring attachments via metal inserts driven into pre-drilled holes and expanded to seal against the sides of the holes. These units are designed for resisting shear force from mechanical loads and securing bolts or fasteners exposed to vibration or side pressure.
Features
- The ends of expansion shield anchors spread during installation to grip the surrounding surface, preventing the anchor from slipping out of the opening.
- These anchors come with threaded inline for easy removal and maintenance services.
- There are two types of expansion anchors: pre-expanded anchors and unexpanded anchors.
- The pre-expanded expansion anchors are inserted into a pre-drilled hole and compressed before exerting force to create holding power.
- The unexpanded expansion anchors must be set after they have been installed into the pre-drilled hole.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are through-bolts?
Through-bolts are made of high tensile steel and their expansion claps completely deform in the hole. Through-bolts function by expanding on the end fork. As you tighten the top nut, the cone piece will gradually pull through the clasp and begin to expand.
What are knock-in hammer anchors?
They are similar to drop-in anchors such that they must be struck to be installed. They feature a nylon or steel body that is positioned in the hole. A nail / screw is driven through the centre of the anchor, forcing the body to expand against the substrate.
What is an expansion bolt?
They are made of three parts: an expanding sleeve, a threaded bolt and a properly sized nut. When used in conjunction, the force produced by tightening the nut and bolt pushes the expanding portion of the sleeve outwards, gripping the material into which the sheathing is embedded. Owing to the unique fastening system, expansion bolts are best suited for connecting porous materials like brick, stone & concrete.
What are the types of expansion bolts?
- Lifetime Expansion Bolts: As the name implies, these fasteners are not intended to be removed. They are distinguished by the steel cone that covers the bolt's head.
- Permafix Security Expansion Bolts: These bolts are commonly used to keep bars and grilles in place.
- Anti-Tamper Expansion Bolts: These steel fasteners can be installed and removed only using an anti-tamper tool.
