Frequently Asked Questions
How do I operate the brand's Photo Eye label dispenser?
- Separate the machine from its base.
- Loosen the unwind hub screw on the unwind collar and remove the collar, unwind washer, unwind spring and disc from the unwind shaft to load a roll of labels on the dispenser.
- Place the roll of labels on the unwind shaft between the two unwind discs. Position the beginning of the roll on the bottom and ensure that the web dispensing faces to your right as you face the side of the machine.
- Reattach the unwind disc, unwind spring and collar onto the unwind shaft. For labels on a 3-inch diameter core, fit the hub on each disc inside the core to support the roll of labels.
- For labels on a 1-inch core, slide the disc up snugly against the roll of labels.
- Tighten the unwind hub screw against the unwind shaft once the disc is in place.
- Thread the loose end of the labels under and up the front of the peel plate.
- Pull the labels over the top of the peel plate until they reach the waste take-up roll.
- Remove the waste wind clip, thread the label backing paper under the clip and reinsert the clip over the loose paper.
- Adjust the position of the Photo Eye or Microswitch assembly by loosening the wing nuts and moving the assembly to the right or left so that the sensor is at or near the centre of the labels. It can be tilted forward / backwards by loosening the vertical adjustment wing nut of the mounting bracket.
- Switch on the On / Off switch to activate the dispenser. The waste wind shaft will rotate, winding up the backing paper and dispensing a label at the top of the peel plate.
- When the Photo Eye or Micro Switch detects the dispensed portion of the label, the motor will stop.
- The machine will continue to operate until the next label is in a position to be removed. Before removing the wound-up waste, make sure to turn off the switch.
- If the labels tend to follow the backing paper over the top of the peel plate instead of peeling off, this indicates insufficient tension on the label web. To increase the tension, move the shaft adjustment collar in.
- If the motor stalls, it may be necessary to reduce the amount of unwind tension by moving the shaft collar out.
What is the difference between the Take-A-Label dispensers and general-purpose label dispensers?
Take-A-Label dispensers are designed to handle larger rolls of labels, up to 12 inches in diameter and are typically used in industrial or commercial settings where high-volume label dispensing is required. They have an adjustable Photo Eye or Micro Switch assembly that can detect the edge of the label to ensure accurate dispensing and a waste take-up roll to automatically wind up the backing paper. General-purpose label dispensers, on the other hand, are designed for smaller rolls of labels and are often used in retail or office environments. They may not have the same features as Take-A-Label dispensers, but they dispense labels in a precise and controlled manner efficiently.
How do I choose the correct label applicator for my needs?
- Consider the dimensions and shape of the labels to determine the type of label applicator you need.
- Different label applicators work best with different types of surfaces.
- The type of label material will affect the type of applicator you need.
- If you need to label a large number of products quickly, you will need an applicator that can handle high volumes and work at a fast pace.
- If accuracy is critical for your labelling process, you may need an applicator that can apply labels precisely in the same location every time.
- Consider whether you want a fully automated label applicator or a semi-automatic one that requires manual intervention.
- Consider your budget and the cost of the label applicator you need. Some applicators can be quite expensive.
