Starrett Competitive Advantages

Bi-Metal Unique Saw Technology

This patented process developed by Starrett provides 170% more weld contact with saw teeth. Additionally, blades will resist tooth slippage, resulting in a significant reduction in fracture and breakage. Two strips of wires are joined to the backing steel through a solid-state diffusion bond, providing multi-edge cutting performance that results in hassle-free cutting and long blade life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are Starrett dial indicators?

Dial indicators convert linear distances into rotational movement that measures dimensions up to 4 inches, with an accuracy of 0.0001 inches. They are usually mounted to a magnetic base or another Starrett fixture.

How do you read a Starrett dial indicator?

  • Mount your dial indicator on a stand.
  • Turn the outer dial face until the hand points to 0.
  • Begin displacing your spindle.
  • Check for errors at half revolutions.
  • Begin to reverse your revolutions.
  • Take five measurements of the same item.
  • Look at the faces on your dial indicator.
  • Measure how long your spindle is.
  • Identify measurement marks.
  • Press the spindle against the item to be measured.
  • Count the marks displaced on the small gauge & calculate the measurement.
  • Count the marks displayed on the large gauge & calculate the measurement.
  • Take both these gauge measurements and add them.

How do you calibrate a Starrett micrometer?

Place the setting bar between the measuring faces. Once the ratchet clicks, gently turn the thimble. Turn the sleeve gently until the thimble zero and sleeve index are aligned, and place the spanner in the hole. The Starrett micrometer is now calibrated.

What is the difference between the graduations on an outside micrometer and a depth micrometer?

Both regular outside and depth micrometers have the same spindle and graduations, but the graduation order for depth micrometers is reversed. Digital depth micrometers have better resolution than conventional line-graduated depth micrometers.
